I am fortunate to be both creative and strategic — the perfect blend of left brain and right brain. As a graphic designer I work primarily in Adobe CS6 (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and as a former magazine marketing analyst I used Microsoft Office regularly. My blogs are created in WordPress.
As a book and mixed media artist, I have taken classes at Center for Book Arts in NY, the Lower East Side Print Shop, Women’s Studio Workshop, R&F Handmade Paints, Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts, Dieu Donné Papermill, Robert Blackburn Printmaking Studio, Pratt Institute, Columbus College of Art and Design, and Ohio University: Lancaster. I have explored a wide variety of artistic mediums such as bookbinding, papermaking, printmaking, letterpress, ceramics, collage, encaustic, painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, textile arts and surface design.
I am a cultural omnivore, regularly attending a wide variety of live musical, theatrical and dance performances. I belong to both a community chorus and a folk music group. I was a founding member of a dance collective, and I am a member of a food coop and a CSA. I am an avid hiker, journal writer and blogger. I have given back to the earth by volunteering as a trail worker in national parks across America. I have volunteered as an onboard educator and crew member on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. I learned medieval stone masonry in Provence. And of course, I devour books. Lots and lots of them.
My work has been shown at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artist’s Coalition (BWAC) shows in Red Hook, and with the Park Slope Windsor Terrace Artists as part of the Artslope arts festival. I have also shown at Uzi NY Gallery, Pratt Manhattan Gallery, Dieu Donné’s Y2K Group Show, and at the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. My work is in private collections and in The Sketchbook Project’s archives.
Although I work in a variety of mediums, I have a special love for the book arts because they provide me with an endlessly flexible form which allows me to incorporate multiple art techniques and personal interests, including graphic design, and writing. I also design and sell artisanal hand-dyed, hand-painted silk scarves under the label, victoriab:design. Visit my Etsy shops at VictoriaBDesignShop and victoriabcollectible!
